Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Had a lovely lunch here with family. Food is delicious, Ribs can do with some improvement on tenderness. Other than that , we were happy with all our options chosen. Atmosphere is amazing. Sea view helps alot. Service is great."
"We had our office Christmas lunch today at Surf Riders. Although our first impression was not that great due to the intense heat where we were seated, once our waitress Amahle reseated us in a cooler area we were so much happier. All 14 meals were enjoyed by our staff and Amahles service was amazing even though the restaurant was extremely busy. My prawn curry was delicious!! Will be back to try the sirloin and lamb shanks as I have extreme food envy ! Be warned they dont take bookings and the cost per head below excluded alcoholic drinks."
"Food and drinks were great! Wasn’t expecting to to be as good as it was! I had mussels and prawns only criticism was that they gave nothing to clean my fingers with and no bowl for discarded shells."
"My colleagues and I had our department Christmas lunch at Surf Riders Café, and it was such a lovely experience. The restaurant is beautifully aesthetic with the most gorgeous décor. Despite the summer heat, the space felt cool and comfortable with a lovely breeze and well-spaced seating throughout the restaurant. Our meals were brought out hot and freshly prepared, and the waiters were kind, attentive, and welcoming. The overall atmosphere was so relaxed and enjoyable that I honestly didn’t want to leave. I’m already looking forward to returning for breakfast with my family. Highly recommended!"
"Had a departing brekkie at Surfrider today. Had a very good experience here. The setting is excellent off the beachfront and the place is designed and setup extremely well. It has a super fancy vibe whilst still chilled and accommodating. Menu has great option (not over baring) I had the My way breaky and partner had the Bacon Bennie, both where really good, decent portion and very fresh! Thats an important one! The only constructive criticism i can give is the Hollandaise could have a little more kick (taste). The cappuccinos were perfect too. Also had the Oreo shake for a good end of the meal. You can tell this place is not only run well but that all the staff are pulled into a similar culture of being mindful and attentive. When we’re in Umhlanga again we’ll be coming here again."
"I have dined the fine of Paris, New York and London. Faded and pleasant memories. What a pleasure to discover on Durban's doorstep a place where passion, inspiration and innovation invite travel to distant lands with flavours, presentation and elegance. With great ambience, views and service to boot I can only express sincere gratitude to Chef Sam and the team for a world class dining experience! Well done!"
"The poke bowl was really fresh and packed great flavours and textures. The lamb was a bit dry and the portion was not big considering the price point. Both mains had great presentation. They were quite busy but the food came out quite fast. The waiters are friendly and the beach views were nice. The glass doors needs to be cleaned though, that was the only negative about the decor."
"I had their veggie wrap with added grilled chicken. It was served like a soft shell taco. Pretty good. Iced coffee was lovely too. Service here is very slow and laid back but pleasant. View is impeccable. Worth it when you are not I a hurry. Heads up if u park inside the Cabanas they charge a whopping Zar 30.00 fee."
